How do I find out what is going on at Calvary?
View our Weekly Announcements, Newsletter, Calendar, Upcoming Events or continue to browse our website.

Is there a difference between the worship services on Sunday morning?
Yes, there are three rather different worship experiences each Sunday.

  • 8:00 a.m. Service of Word and Table
A smaller service that involves singing hymns, piano accompaniment, sermon and Holy Communion every week.  Somewhat informal in style.

  • 9:20 a.m. Praise Service
This is the largest service and involves praise music led by a band (guitars, drums, bass and voices), projection, and a sermon each week.  Special music provided by rotating choirs. The Sunday School program for children runs during this hour, making it a popular choice for families who wish to have their children participate in Sunday School.  Middle School and adult classes are also provided at this hour.

  • 11:00 a.m. Traditional Service
Chancel Choir, organ, and hymns are present in this worship service each week.  The pastors wear robes and preach from the pulpit.  Holy Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month. Bible study and adult classes are also offered at this hour.

How do I get involved in a choir?
Calvary offers various choirs to choose from for all ages.  Visit Music to learn more.

How can I become a member of Calvary?
Calvary offers Exploring Membership classes several times each year.  This is a one session class held on an evening or weekend to introduce people to the church and what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.  There is an option at the end of each Exploring Membership Class for those who wish to join the church to do so.

What does it mean to be a member of Calvary Church?
The programs and ministries of the church are provided to everyone.  Members are those who have made the decision to belong to this community of faith and support it by their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their witness and their service.

What about children in worship?
We love children and always welcome them in the worship services. On several occasions Jesus made it clear that children were important and not to be excluded.  Children can take in a lot by being present with their family and with people of various ages in worship and the rest of the church benefits from their presence as well.

We do provide a nursery with trained and professional staff for younger children (ages infant through 4 years) every Sunday morning.  Older children through fifth grade may stay with their families or participate in our Sunday School program which begins about 10 minutes into the worship service.

What other programs do you offer children and youth?
Visit our Children's Ministires for ages 3 years of age to 5th grade, and Youth Ministires for kids in 6th through 12th grade.

How do I have my child (or myself) baptized?
Calvary offers baptisms for infants, children, and adults.  Baptisms take place during Sunday worship throughout the year.  You will need to contact the Pastor to arrange the date and discuss what is involved in baptism.  Rev. Deb Scott can be reached at revdeb8@aol.com or 301-641-4601.

Where do I park on Sunday morning?
Our main parking lot is located at the back of the building.  You can enter this lot from Main Street, Paradise Avenue, and Dorsey Road.  Handicapped parking is available on the lot located in front of the church (Main Street entry).  We request that the parking lot in front of the church (Main Street entry) be used by persons with limited mobility.

Do I have to be a member of Calvary to receive Communion?
No, membership is not required.  You do not need to be a member of our church or any other church.  Anyone who is hungry for God and the things of God is welcome to share at the Lord's Table.
